Shock for the Briton who came to Turkey with his family on vacation: he was deported in a hurry

A man who arrived in Turkey from England on holiday with his family was hastily caught at the airport and deported because he had the same name as another Englishman fighting for a terrorist organization in Syria.

According to news in Britain’s Daily Mirror, Daniel Burke, 36, flew from Newcastle to Fethiye with his girlfriend and their three children, one of whom is 15 months old, for a holiday. Burke and his family, surrounded by armed police at the Dalaman airport, experienced great fear.

The Briton, who was taken to a room and questioned about his “ties to Syria”, said in a press statement about the incident: “They were asking me when I last went to Syria. They had weapons. My children were also in the room and they were very scared. My oldest daughter was crying,” he said.

Explaining that the Turkish authorities canceled her passport and she had to return to England, Burke was able to understand the reason for the incident through her daughter’s internet research.

In the investigation, his daughter learned that another Briton named Daniel Burke went to this country in 2017 to fight in the ranks of the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization. Burke, also 36, was released after being held for eight months on charges of “terrorist activity” when he returned to England after two years in Syria.

Daniel Burke from Newcastle, who works at the photocopy company, said of his namesake: “Your name was on the list because you were fighting Turkish forces. We are not at all alike and our dates of birth are also different. “I don’t know how many Daniel Burkes there are, but I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else.”

Burke said that the British authorities also stated that they could not interfere with the decisions of the Turkish immigration authorities, but expressed regret over the incident.
