Zelensky visited the Island of Snakes in the Black Sea
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited the Snake Island (Zmiinyi) in the Black Sea, which was recaptured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces a year ago during the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
At the start of the war, one of the prominent developments of the war was that Ukrainian soldiers defending Snake Island opposed the surrender order of a Russian warship.
The island was captured by Russia, but later recaptured by Ukraine. The President of Ukraine also described it in a video as a place of victory that can never be recaptured.
Last year, Russia’s flagship, the Moskva, sailed to Snake Island a few hours after the start of the war and ordered Ukrainian soldiers on the island to surrender.
A Russian officer said: “To avoid bloodshed and unnecessary casualties, I suggest you lay down your arms and surrender. Otherwise you will be bombed” and the war of words between Russian and Ukrainian soldiers went viral on social media.
Zelenskiy thanked the soldiers who fought for 500 days in video taken at the memorial service as he reached the island by boat.
Zelenskiy shared his visit on his social media account and wrote that Snake Island is a free island of free Ukraine.
The latest video showing Zelensky’s visit comes after the Ukrainian president visits European leaders as part of his diplomatic tour to boost support for Ukraine’s NATO membership.
