UN: The number of civilians killed in Ukraine exceeded 9 thousand

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) announced that 9,177 civilians have lost their lives in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian occupation.

In the Ukraine report released yesterday, OHCHR announced that a total of 9,177 civilians were killed and 15,993 civilians injured between February 24, 2022, when the Russian invasion began, and June 30, 2023. In the report A detailed report prepared on civilian casualties, including killed and wounded, noted that 61 percent of civilian casualties, whose gender was determined, were male and 39 percent were female.

For the deaths of children in the report, “From February 24, 2022 to June 30, 2023, OHCHR, 535 people died and 1,095 were injured among children in Ukraine. The actual number is quite high.

‘THE REAL NUMBERS ARE MUCH HIGHER’

The report included the following statements:

“Since many reports of individual civilian casualties in certain locations are still awaiting confirmation, the actual number of civilian casualties is significantly higher. These places include Mariupol (Donetsk region) and Lysychansk, Popasna and Sievierodonetsk (Lugansk region).

OHCHR stated that it received information that 58 people were killed and 229 injured in Russia.

Authorities reported that the highest number of civilian deaths occurred in March and April 2022, and the lowest number of civilian deaths occurred in February 2023. In the report, it was stated that civilian casualties were mainly caused by missile strikes. and civilian casualties, excluding firearms, were caused by mines and explosives. (DHA)
