Announced the result of the referendum of ‘transition to the euro’ in Bulgaria

The Russian-led Vizrajdane Party’s referendum proposal to delay the country’s transition to the euro was discussed in parliament.

In the vote with the participation of 212 deputies, 68 deputies voted “yes” and 98 deputies voted “no”.

The proposal was rejected in the vote, in which 46 deputies abstained.

The Vızrajdane Party announced that it will take the rejection decision of the parliament to the Constitutional Court.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Vizrajdane Party, which has a 37-person group in parliament, launched a petition campaign to hold a referendum on the country’s transition to the euro.

As part of the campaign, the party said: “Do you approve of the Bulgarian lev being the only official currency of the country until 2043?” posed the question and collected approximately 470,000 signatures.

At least 400,000 signatures are required for the country’s parliament to put the referendum request on the agenda.

EU member Bulgaria is expected to adopt the euro in 2024. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
