Trump aide Nauta denies ‘confidential document’ allegations
Former US President Donald Trump’s aide Walt Nauta said he was innocent of the accusations made by prosecutors in Miami federal court, where he appeared today.
Nauta, 40, who has stayed with Trump as his personal assistant since his White House tenure, is accused of helping his boss hide classified state documents and lying to federal officials about it.
Nauta faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Nauta, who appeared in court for the first time on June 13 with Trump, requested that his defense of the charges be delayed because he could not find a local attorney in Florida.
CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENTS SCANDAL
Former US President Donald Trump’s home in Florida was raided by FBI agents on the morning of August 8, 2022 for an investigation into “confidential documents.”
Describing the raid and ongoing investigations as “political,” Trump specifically requested that the documents taken from Mar-a-Lago be reviewed by an “independent arbitrator or special judge.”
Former Attorney General Jack Smith, who was appointed as an authorized special expert in the “secret documents” and “January 6 congressional raid” investigations conducted against Trump, testified in the 49-page indictment he announced on June 9 , that when he left his post at the White House, Trump took the classified documents with him and accused them of obstructing relevant federal investigations.
Trump, who appeared before the judge in Miami on June 13 after the indictment and went down in history as the “first former president to appear in court a second time as part of a federal investigation,” also denied 37 separate charges against him. . .
Trump had previously appeared before a judge in New York on April 4, accused of paying a woman a “shutdown” during the 2016 presidential election. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
