Strong messages from Foreign Minister Fidan to Sweden

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made a statement to the press after the fifth Turkey-Finland-Sweden Permanent Joint Mechanism Meeting held at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Noting that the meeting reviewed the steps taken by Finland and Sweden, especially in the field of combating terrorism, on the basis of the Triple Memorandum signed during the NATO Summit in Madrid, Fidan said: “It is imperative that countries that want to join NATO take a strong position in the fight against terrorism. saying.

Fidan, “Sweden has taken steps in terms of legislative changes, but legislative changes need to be reflected in practice.” He stressed that the requirements of the Triple Memorandum must be strictly followed.

“WITHOUT MEANS FOR Türkiye”

Foreign Minister Fidan also stressed that in order to become a member of NATO, future allies must end sanctions and restrictions on the export of military supplies to Turkey.

Noting that the activities of terrorist organizations continue in Sweden, Fidan said: “If terrorist organizations like PKK and FETÖ and their affiliated structures continue their demonstrations on the streets of Sweden, if they can recruit staff and access financial resources, the change in the legislation does not make sense for Turkey”. saying.

Fidan said: “On the other hand, it is not a situation that we can ignore that billions of Muslims are allowed to attack the holy book of the Quran on the first day of Eid al-Adha. Also, this is not the first time. It opens up the discussion how a country that allows acts that play into the hands of terrorist organizations will contribute to the fight against terrorism”. he performed the assessment of it.

Noting that Sweden’s claim that it has complied with its commitments must be examined separately, Fidan noted that they do not condone the use of “time pressure” as a method.

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF SWEDEN

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström made remarks to the press after the 5th meeting of the Permanent Joint Mechanism, which was established in the Tripartite Memorandum signed by Turkey, Sweden and Finland on June 28, 2022, held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

“I think progress has been made in our conversation.” Billström stated that they are working hard to become a member of NATO.

Pointing to the NATO Summit due to take place in Vilnius on July 11-12, Billström said: “We expect a positive decision next week, but it will be a completely Turkish decision.” he said.

Recalling that the Stockholm District Court had today sentenced the terrorist organization’s PKK/YPG member for collecting tribute, Billström said: “The 40-year-old person who collects tribute for the PKK/YPG terrorist organization in our country was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison will be deported after withdrawal. This is a historic decision. It is also proof that we take concerns about the PKK seriously.” he performed the assessment of it.
