US Press Turkey Sex Trafficking File: How Did the Young Mother Escape Istanbul?

Diana K., 26, from Kyrgyzstan, thought she would earn some money from the job offer she received from Turkey, but when she arrived, her life changed completely.

Radio Free Europe, a communication organ supported by the US administration, published shocking news about the story of the young woman who fell into the network of the sex trade in Turkey.

Diana, a mother of two, who did not reveal her last name, first asked a Kyrgyz woman named Şehzade, whom she knew from afar: “Why are you sitting at home? He tricked me by saying, “You can go abroad to save money to buy a house,” and said, “He gave me the phone number of a friend named Mevlüde. Then Mevlüde called me and invited me to Istanbul. He promised to find me a good job.” paid”.

Diana, a high school graduate whose wife works in Moscow, said she had difficulty finding a job in Kyrgyzstan and accepted the offer, coming to Istanbul to care for an elderly woman in Turkey for $300 a month.

Many Kyrgyz women work as caretakers or cleaners in Türkiye and various countries.

I woke up in the morning, I had a nightmare.

Stating that many Kyrgyz women work as child and elderly caretakers or domestic servants in Turkey, Diana said she did not find the offer suspicious, but faced the terrible reality after arriving in Istanbul in February. Saying that the woman named Umida, who met her at the airport, took her to a house in Kumkapı, the mother of two said: “When I woke up in the morning, my passport was not in my bag. Umida said that she bought me from Mevlüde by paying a lot of money and that I had to pay the price”.

Diana later described the horrifying moments she lived through with these words:

“Two young men entered the room and grabbed me by the neck. They threatened to kill me if I didn’t work to pay the money. They said, ‘They can’t even find his body.’

Explaining that she did not know anyone in Turkey and that she was very afraid, Diana managed to escape with the help of a foreigner a week later and went to the police. Returning to her country with the help of the Kyrgyz Consulate in Istanbul, the young woman stated that the terrible days she lived through had turned her life upside down.

DISASSEMBLED FAMILY

Noting that her husband filed for divorce and fought for custody of their two children, Diana is now staying at her parents’ home and trying to get over the shock she experienced.

Diana, who also fought for the prosecution of the gang that kidnapped her, filed a complaint with the Kyrgyz police, but due to lack of evidence no case could be filed.

The rapid increase in the number of women going abroad to work from Kyrgyzstan is a controversial issue in the country. Last month, some Kyrgyz lawmakers called on the government to ban women under the age of 23 from going abroad to work.

Many people say that young Kyrgyz women are exposed to abuse and exploitation as migrant workers in the countries they go to.
