Russia: There is no reason to keep the agreement

The Russian Foreign Ministry made a written statement on the grain shipment agreement signed in Istanbul on July 22, 2022 between Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and the United Nations (UN).

Noting that the agreement in question will expire on July 17, the statement states that “in this context, Western countries, Ukraine and the UN made propaganda about the agreement, which cannot be extended without the consent of Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. .”

“Aiming to help African, Asian and Latin American countries in need, the agreement turned into commercial exports of Ukrainian grains to well-fed countries,” the statement said. Most of the 32.6 million tons of grain exported from the ports of Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny since August 1, 2022, 26.2 million tons, or 81%, went to middle-income countries and tall. Poor countries like Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan and Somalia were only able to get 862,086 tons, or 2.6 percent, of the grain harvested.” statements were included.

“A FOLLOWS IN SILENCE”

Emphasizing that the agreement consists of two parts and that “the situation regarding the shipment of Russian food and fertilizer continues to deteriorate,” the statement said, “sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries prevent the export of Russian food products.”

The statement noted:

“Only two batches of 262,000 tons of Russian fertilizers have been shipped, which are planned to be donated to countries in need from September 2022. 20,000 tons of fertilizer were sent to Malawi and 34,000 tons to Kenya. The UN is silent on these issues. In the West, it is reported that sanctions against Russia cannot be eased even on food and fertilizer issues. In these circumstances, there is no reason to continue the agreement, which expires on July 17.” (AA)
