Syria and Jordan agree to return refugees
During the official visit of Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi to the Syrian capital Damascus yesterday, the main agenda was the return of Syrian refugees to their countries.
The Jordanian minister met in Damascus with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Miqdad, and Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Expressing that the return of the Syrian refugees is his priority during the meeting, Assad said that the infrastructure, all kinds of reconstruction and rehabilitation requirements must be guaranteed for their return.
According to news from Syria’s official news agency SANA, Assad also pointed out that all measures taken by the Syrian state, both at the legal and compromise level, contribute to providing the best environment for the return of refugees, and that this The issue is “a purely human and moral issue that should not be politicized in any way,” he said.
Jordanian Minister Safedi also stated that they want to strengthen bilateral relations with Syria to contribute to the return of Syrian refugees. Stating that international investments in Syria should be increased for the voluntary return of refugees, Safedi stated that they have reached an agreement to work with the Damascus government in bilateral areas that contribute to the return of Syrians.
THERE ARE OVER 1 MILLION REFUGEES IN JORDAN
In the Jordanian minister’s meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Mikdad, the issue of refugees was at the top of the agenda. At the base meeting held after the meeting, Mikdad said: “The war in Syria has also caused a lot of problems in neighboring countries. “We discussed a number of issues, including the refugee case, with our Jordanian brothers,” he said.
Jordan has been one of the countries hardest hit by the war in Syria, which broke out in 2011. More than 1 million refugees live in the country, mostly Syrians. Hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees, Turkey is the country hosting the largest number of refugees in the world.
