The money comes on top of the €6.3 billion Berlin announced in October last year it would invest in charging points over the next three years. Currently, the country has about 90,000 public charging points and in 2030 there should be 1 million.
1.2 million electric cars
According to German authorities, there were more than 1.2 million all-electric cars in the country at the end of April. Berlin’s goal for 2030 is 15 million electric cars. Many Germans are still wary of buying electric cars due to high costs, limited range and lack of charging stations, especially in remote areas.
With these investments, the government wants to convince more Germans to switch to electric driving. The country wants to be climate neutral by 2045 and electric cars have to make an important contribution to this.
