Decision of the Koran that will cause crisis in Sweden

Swedish police announced that the burning of the Koran, scheduled for the first day of Eid al-Adha, in front of the main mosque in the capital, Stockholm, is allowed.

In a written statement, the police argued that the security risks associated with the act of burning the Koran “do not require a rejection decision under existing laws.” It was noted that two people, including an Iraqi asylum seeker named Salwan Momika, will take part in the action.

The burning of the Koran by far-right politician Rasmus Paludan in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden in January sparked a reaction from many countries, including Turkey. After the provocations from the Koran and the protests against President Erdoğan in Sweden, very harsh messages came from Ankara and NATO talks with Sweden were suspended.

POLICE SUPPLEMENT IN FRONT OF THE MOSQUE

The Swedish police had decided not to allow Quran burnings in Stockholm two weeks ago. The appeals court argued that this police ban was wrong.

The crisis is taking place at a time when calls are increasing for Turkey, which does not approve Sweden’s entry into NATO. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in a statement this morning that they were awaiting Turkey’s approval and hoped to become a member of the military alliance before the NATO summit in Vilnius next month.

Before today’s provocation, the police announced that they had called for reinforcements from across the country to restore order in the region. The correspondent for the French news agency AFP reported that police vehicles were deployed near the mosque this morning.
