UN Security Council members call for restraint in occupied West Bank
Lana Nusaybe, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the UN, made a statement to the press on behalf of the members of the United Nations Security Council.
Nusayba recalled that members of the United Nations Security Council met in a closed-door session on June 23, at the request of the United Arab Emirates, France and China, to discuss the violence in the West Bank, noting that the members stressed the need to respect international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians
Nusayba stated that the members stressed that the Israeli and Palestinian authorities should combat terrorism and condemn it, and it was agreed that those who caused the violence should be punished.
“The member states call on the parties to restrain themselves and refrain from unilateral actions to reduce tensions and restore calm.” Using the expression Nusaybe, he stressed that he regrets the loss of civilian lives in the occupied West Bank.
Nuseybe stated that members of the United Nations Security Council will continue to follow the issue. (AA)
