Bulgaria will send weapons to Ukraine
The Government Press Center stated that the decision announced today was taken on June 23 and that the supply of arms to Ukraine will not negatively affect Bulgaria’s power and defense capabilities.
The government, which did not provide information on the types of weapons to be delivered to Ukraine, announced that the second shipment will be similar to the first on December 22, 2022.
Defense Minister Todor Tagarev stated that there is still usable ammunition produced 30 years ago in the ammunition depots of the armed forces and if it is not supplied, it will have to be destroyed soon.
The opposition pro-Russian Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the racist populist “Vızrajdane” (Renaissance) party prevented arms shipments to Ukraine until the parliament’s decision to this effect on December 9, 2022.
SABOTATED
President Rumen Radev, who said that “Crimea belongs to Russia” and sided with Russia, sabotaged the vote on arms shipments to Ukraine for two years. Believing that Russia will win the war, Radev argues that sending weapons to Ukraine will only prolong the conflict.
The new pro-European Union, pro-NATO coalition government, which received a vote of confidence in parliament on June 6, blocked initiatives by Radev and pro-Moscow parties in parliament. (AA)
