‘Wagner’ statement by US President Biden

In his infrastructure policy speech at the White House, Biden touched on developments related to the Wagner group in Russia.

Biden noted that Wagner’s group in Russia instructed the national security team to closely monitor developments and inform him hourly when events related to the rebellion began.

Stating that he also instructed the national security team to prepare for different scenarios, Biden said that the leaders of US allies also met online to ensure they were on board with developments in Russia.

Emphasizing that it is important to be in coordination regarding your reactions and expectations in this regard, Biden said: “We did not give Putin any excuse to blame the West or NATO for this. We have made it clear that we are not involved. We had nothing to do with it. It was part of a fight within the Russian system.” he said.

Noting that he also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy about the events, Biden said he could speak to him again in the morning or early tomorrow.

Biden stressed that whatever happens in Russia, the United States will continue to support Ukraine. Stating that they decided to be in constant communication with Zelenskiy, Biden emphasized that he is in constant contact with other allies.

“We will continue to assess the consequences of this weekend’s events and their implications for Russia and Ukraine.” Biden said it’s too early to make a definitive conclusion about where the developments are going.
