Clergy in Russia: They made an appeal to Wagner
Patriarch Kirill, leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, called for unity after the Wagner revolt in Russia.
Patriarch Kirill, close to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, urged Wagner’s fighters to “think again”, advocating for national unity. “Trying to create discord in the country, while the enemies do everything to destroy Russia, is the greatest crime without justification. “As the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, I urge those who are ready to use their weapons against their brothers to think again,” he said.
Noting that Putin supports efforts to prevent unrest in Russia, Patriarch Kirill described Wagner’s revolt as a “test”.
Patriarch Kirill has been supporting the Ukrainian war for a long time. Last March, the Patriarch’s support for the war provoked reactions, describing the war as “an extension of a fundamental cultural conflict between the Russian world and the liberal values of the West.”
