Erdogan’s full support for Putin
As Russia was reeling from the Wagner mercenary group’s attempted coup, President Tayyip Erdoğan called Russian President Putin.
In the statement issued by the Communications Directorate, “The latest developments in Russia were discussed at the meeting. President Erdoğan underlined the importance of acting with common sense during the meeting. During the meeting, he stressed that no one should take responsibility for what happened in Russia. “As Turkey, we stand ready to do our part to resolve what happened in this context as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The Russian news agency Ria reported that the Kremlin has stated that Erdogan fully supports the steps of the Russian leadership.
According to Russian media, Putin informed Erdogan about the attempted armed rebellion.
In the Russian Presidency statement, it was noted that Putin also met with President of Belarus Aleksandır Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kasım Cömert Tokayev and President of Uzbekistan Şevket Mirziyoyev about the situation in the country.
Meanwhile, Iran has also spoken out on the crisis. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Madir Kenani said they support the rule of law in Russia, saying, “The latest developments are Russia’s internal affair.”
