Record temperature in Beijing

Record temperature in Beijing

In Beijing, the capital of China, the air temperature exceeded 40 degrees at noon and reached “the highest value recorded in June so far.”

At the weather station in the south of the city, which is considered an indicator of air temperature, the air temperature was measured at 40.7 degrees during the day. This was the “highest temperature recorded in the city since regular measurements began.” The previous maximum temperature was 40.6 degrees Celsius on June 10, 1961.

China is experiencing the impact of an early heat wave triggered by the El Niño oscillation in the Pacific Ocean. In Beijing, where the hot weather has been in effect since early June, the air temperature has risen to “above 40 degrees for the first time since 2014.”

ORANGE ALARM

The town of Tanghikou, about 100 kilometers north of the city, where the temperature was 41.8 degrees Celsius, became the “hottest place in China.”

An “orange” alert was declared due to the extreme heat that coincided with the celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival. The “orange” alarm represents the second highest level after “red” in China’s 4-degree hot weather warning system.

On the other hand, extreme heat is also effective in the regions around Beijing. In the port city of Tiencin, 110 kilometers south of the capital, the temperature reached 41.2 degrees, breaking the record. The northern provinces of Hibey and Shandong, and the Uighur autonomous regions of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang are also expected to be affected by the heat wave. (AA)
