Indian Prime Minister kicks off his US visit by practicing yoga
Visiting the US, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended for the first time the yoga event held at the UN headquarters in New York as part of World Yoga Day.
Modi, who was doing yoga with the crowd, called on people to “join hands online for one world, one family and one future.” Stating that yoga is important not only for health but also for people’s kindness to each other, Modi said, “Let us use the power of yoga to build bridges of friendship and a peaceful world.”
In line with the Indian leader’s suggestion, the UN declared June 21 as World Yoga Day in 2014.
Modi will discuss bilateral relations and economic cooperation with US President Joe Biden at the White House today. Efforts to increase investment by US companies in India will also be on the agenda during the meetings.
