Russian statement on the Erdogan-Assad meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for Syria Aleksandr Lavrentiyev said that the summit between Damascus and Ankara will only be on the agenda after the “road map” for the normalization of relations between the two countries is prepared.

Lavrentiyev made remarks at the press conference held after the main session of the Astana talks on “Syria”, held for the 20th time in the capital of Kazakhstan. Noting that they held a four-day meeting at the level of the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Iran and Syria, where the “road map” for the normalization of relations between Syria and Turkey was discussed, Lavrentiyev stated that must work more. made to approve said “map” at the level of presidents.

Lavrentiyev noted that the work on the preparation of the “road map” is progressing very intensively and steadily, “As soon as the (Road Map) is completed, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar Assad, at the meeting in which the presidents of the Three guarantor countries were also present and the results of the study will be presented to our leaders for discussion.

Within the framework of the Astana talks on “Syria”, a four-way meeting between the delegations of the administration of Turkey, Russia, Iran and Damascus was held on the first day, where the “road map” for the normalization of Syria- Relations with Turkey were discussed.
