“Ukraine hopes to draw Russian reserve troops forward” Related articles

According to defense specialist Peter Wijninga of the Center for Strategic Studies in The Hague, only “preliminary battles” are currently taking place at the front. According to him, the main force of the Ukrainian army has not yet been deployed. “I think Kiev is waiting for Russian reserves to come forward.”

Careful small attacks to see where the Russian line is weakest. This is what Ukrainians are dealing with at the moment, says Peter Wijninga, a defense specialist at the Center for Strategic Studies in The Hague. “They’re trying to find out where the chances of a breakthrough are greatest. This will determine where the main army of the army will eventually be deployed.’

“It reminds me a bit of the last months of WWII, when Hitler bombed London and Antwerp with his V-guns”

According to Wijninga, Kiev also wants to draw Russian reserve troops forward, “and then tear them apart. Russia must fall into this trap and at the moment this is not the case.” According to Wijninga, the Russian defense consists of three lines. «Now they are breaking through with the first one. The second line is by far the most heavily defended, with concrete bunkers and dragon’s teeth. Only behind are reserve troops.

Meaningless air raids

The defense specialist now wonders why Russia continues with these airstrikes on cities like Kiev and Odessa. “It reminds me a bit of the last months of the Second World War, when Hitler bombed London and Antwerp with his V-arms. Militarily it makes no sense. He might tie some air defense assets to cities that can’t go to the front, but that won’t make a big difference.’
