Biden made the comments during a meeting with potential political donors in California. The day before, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Xi. Blinken is in China to ease tensions between the two countries.
On Monday, Blinken and Xi expressed a desire to stabilize the intense rivalry between Washington and Beijing so that it does not escalate to conflict. However, they failed to make a major breakthrough during the bout. Biden said on Monday that he believes relations between the two countries are on track. He also said progress has been made on Blinken’s journey.
Incidentally, it wasn’t the first time Biden had verbally lashed out at Xi. For example, in February 2020, when he was still campaigning for the White House, she called the Chinese president a “street criminal” (thug). He once dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “butcher” in March 2022, immediately after the invasion of Ukraine. He had previously called Putin a “war criminal” and a “murderous dictator”.
On Friday, the 80-year-old Biden stunned his audience when, seemingly out of the blue, he concluded a speech on gun violence in the United States by saying, “God save the queen, man.” A White House spokeswoman later said the remark was intended for someone in the public. She did not say who the president was responding to or what prompted her words.
