The date has been set…Trump’s trial begins
In a written statement, US Judge Aileen Cannon indicated that the case on Trump’s detention of classified documents at his home will begin on August 14 in the state of Florida.
Cannon shared his prediction that the case will be completed within two weeks of the start date.
It was commented in the US press that the hearing on August 14, where Trump and his lawyers are expected to push to postpone the case, seems unlikely.
Trump and his lawyers are also expected to petition the Justice Department to “declassify the evidence” in the hope that some of their charges will be dropped.
CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENTS
Donald Trump’s mansion called “Mar-a-Lagon” in Florida was raided by FBI agents for the investigation of “confidential documents” on the morning of August 8, 2022.
Describing the raid and the ongoing investigations against it as “political,” Trump demanded that the documents taken from Mar-a-Lago be reviewed by an “independent arbitrator or special judge.”
It is chaired by former Attorney General Jack Smith, who was appointed as an authorized special expert in the “confidential documents” and “January 6 congressional raid” investigations of Trump.
On June 11, Trump dismissed 37 separate allegations of concealing classified state documents, calling them “absurd and baseless.” (AA)
