President ‘stuck’ on beer, country confused

Macron, who enriched his beer, sparked controversy

French President Emmanuel Macron sparked a huge backlash for his videos shared on social media.

After the rugby match played at the Stade de France near Paris and in which Toulouse defeated La Rochelle, Macron went to the Toulouse dressing room after the game to congratulate the players and the coaching staff.

Chatting with the athletes, Macron then drank a bottle of beer that was handed to him without taking a breath. The images of Macron drinking a bottle of beer in 17 seconds broke the record for sharing on social networks.

While the French media claimed that the players and coaching staff promised not to share the video, they also stressed that the video was somehow leaked.

French politicians also criticized Macron… Socialist senator Laurence Rossignol said: “Did you have a beer in your head? What do you want to try? Is he a real man? A macho cliché, ”he commented.

Green MP Sandrine Rousseau said: “This is how toxic masculinity in political leadership is expressed in a photograph.” Right-wing politician Gilbert Collard said: “He’s trying to show off”, while Toulouse manager Clement Poitrenaud said: “All I can say is that he knows how to have a good time.”

Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse, said: “It was a very spontaneous moment. He made a bet with the athletes jokingly,” he said.

Macron has previously clashed with health workers for defending the French wine industry. Macron said that he drank a glass of wine at lunch and dinner.
