Death toll in India train crash rises to 290

According to Hindustan Times news, two more people were injured in the accident involving two passengers and a freight train, near the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in the state’s Balasore district.

Thus, the death toll in the accident, in which more than 900 people were injured, rose to 290.

In the investigation initiated by the railway authorities, it was stated that “signal error” could have caused the accident, according to the first determinations.

Although the transit signal for the Coromandel Express was given and the signal was later cut off, the train entering the main line collided with the freight train.

While a full report on the accident is expected to be made shortly, the reason why the signal was given and canceled is still unknown.

According to Indian national media, the accident in question is described as the “biggest train accident” in the country in the last 20 years. (AA)
