81,388 Turks took refuge in Germany!

Turkey’s “asylum” to the member countries of the European Union, especially Germany, exploded. In addition to asylum claims from those who come and do not return on tourist or other visas, asylum claims from those who are “smuggled” in one way or another “through organizations” are rapidly breaking records.

In the last 6 years, 81,388 Turks have taken refuge in Germany alone. With other EU member states, this number has approached 200,000. Also, these figures do not include Turks who become legal by getting a job, getting married, or otherwise.

INCREASING SINCE 2017

When the number of Turkish-related asylum seekers exceeded 8,000 per year, Germany included Turkish citizens in its annual list of “asylum seekers”. According to figures from the German Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, 8,027 Turkish citizens applied for asylum in 2017, 10,160 in 2018, 10,784 in 2019, 5,778 in 2020 and 7,076 in 2021. In 2022, 23 1,938 Turkish citizens applied for asylum.

In the first 5 months of 2023, 15,634 Turkish citizens applied for asylum in Germany. Due to the explosion in the asylum number, Germany began to process visas more carefully and even decided not to consider appeals against visa denials.

TOP THREE IN REFUGEES: SYRIAN, AFGHAN, TURKISH

Türkiye’s asylum claims reached out to Afghans. The Turks are still in third place after those from Syria and Afghanistan, but the gap is closing day by day. While the number of Turkish asylum seekers approached 16,000 in the first 5 months of 2023, Afghans shared the top two places with 23,000 and Syrians with 35,000.

One of the reasons Germany keeps the job tight like other EU countries is that Syrians who obtained Turkish citizenship later apply for an EU visa.

Germany or other EU member states, who cannot prevent illegal entry, find the solution to restrict visas. This situation negatively affects businessmen and tourists.

GO DOES NOT ARRIVE

In addition to Germany, countries like Switzerland, Greece, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, where Turkey’s economic asylums have skyrocketed, continue to hold the issue of visas tight. Because many Turks who set foot here do not return to Turkey, they disappear even if they are denied asylum.

In a few weeks the new common EU visa regime will enter into force and all visa applications will be visible to member states. Thus, the situation will be understood when those who are rejected from a country hide it and apply it to other countries.
