New diplomatic crisis: Note delivered to Switzerland after anti-Erdogan action
It was reported that Turkey summoned the Swiss ambassador to the Foreign Ministry due to the demonstration against President Erdoğan and delivered a note.
A source who spoke to the Reuters news agency said that the Swiss ambassador in Ankara, Jean Daniel Ruch, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozbay reported that he found the actions in Switzerland “unacceptable” and told the ambassador that they demanded an investigation.
An Erdoğan-like puppet and a Turkish flag were burned in front of the UBS bank in Zurich by the group called “Zurich Revolutionary Strike Collective”.
In addition, it was demanded that those responsible for the act be identified and that the necessary actions be initiated. Reuters wrote that the diplomatic tension arose from a demonstration in Zurich where a model of Erdogan was burned and banners were unfurled.
AKP REACTION
AKP spokesman Ömer Çelik said: “We condemn the ugly attack by supporters of the terrorist organization PKK in Switzerland, against the Turkish flag and our president, Mr. Erdoğan. We strongly condemn the Swiss authorities’ condoning this despicable act,” he said.
Ankara had recently summoned the ambassadors of some countries and issued a protest note against the actions against Erdogan and Turkey in Europe.
Especially in Sweden, the burning of the Koran and the demonstrations against Erdogan received harsh reactions from Turkey. Ankara has yet to approve Sweden’s NATO membership, which it accuses of failing to meet its anti-terror demands. (AGENCIES)
