US base bomb alert
The Yokota airbase, west of Japan’s capital Tokyo, was evacuated due to a “bomb threat.”
According to the news from the Kyodo agency, which relies on security sources, a bomb threat was made against the Yokota Air Base. After the announcement, the entrances and exits to the air base were closed. American and Japanese civilian officers and employees in some buildings on the base campus were evacuated. As part of the evacuation, the 374th Airlift Wing headquarters stationed at the base campus was completely evacuated.
As a result of the security checks, which lasted about 3 hours, the information was shared that the base could continue to provide service safely. The air base was reopened to entries and exits, while military and civilian personnel returned to their posts.
In Japan, approximately 14,000 soldiers are stationed at Yokota Air Base, known as the US Forces Japan (USFJ) headquarters. (AA)
