New sanctions arrive for those who pollute social networks in Kazakhstan

The Kazakhstan Assembly approved the bill, which provides for amendments to the law on “online platforms and online advertising”.

According to the regulation, those who spread false information on the Internet, especially through social networks and messaging applications, will be fined ($150).

Repeat offenders within one year will be subject to administrative detention for up to 10 days or an additional fine (approximately $500).

Kazakh MP Yerlan Sairov said that the law was prepared in accordance with international standards on the regulation of online platforms.

Sairov noted that with the law, they aimed to protect citizens from negative events such as intimidation and insults on social media, and to prevent political separatism and extremism in the country. (AA)
