Cold shower for Nusret in the USA: they closed the door
Restaurant operator and chef Nusret Gökçe, known as Salt Bea to the world, has closed the burger joint, which was voted the “worst restaurant in New York” for a while.
The “We have moved” sign on the door of the restaurant, which would have closed last month, drew attention. The news came after months of discussions about the restaurant.
Declared “the worst restaurant in New York City” when it opened 3 years ago, Manhattan’s Salt Bae Burger was frequently on the agenda with its high prices and scandals. The restaurant, which opened in 2020, just before the start of the covid measures, served a free vegetarian “girly burger” for women, drawing accusations of sexism.
REACTED HAMBURGER AT $100
The restaurant, which faced criticism for exorbitant prices because the milkshake was $99 and the classic burger was $100, was seen as the most important link in Nusret’s goal of establishing a burger chain in the United States.
Nusret Gökçe had previously said that he was pleased with the interest shown by the restaurant, saying that “Americans and New Yorkers love me very much.”
SEXUAL HARASSMENT, EXTRA PRICE, HYGIENE PROBLEM…
Some critics of the restaurant, which was also exposed to hygiene-related reactions, criticized “worse than hospital food”. Nusret Gökçe, who gained worldwide fame with restaurants he opened in more than 20 regions, famously salted meat without wearing gloves, sparking a reaction that “does not meet sanitary standards,” and the chef Turk later began to wear gloves.
Nusr-Et restaurants, which is also dealing with sexual harassment and non-payment charges at its New York restaurant, were not on the agenda with news in the US press that “hundreds of dollars in tickets for two people, a piece of lettuce and some mystery greens for $25”.
Pete Wells, one of the New York Times food critics, called the meat at the Salt Bea restaurant tasteless and saltless, saying, “Mr. Gökçe only has one move, but he does it with great confidence.”
