“This has never happened before,” Hammelburg continues. “Of course he’s innocent until proven guilty, but it’s a very serious charge.”
‘This has never happened before’
The footage showed Trump arriving in a motorcade and then exiting the courthouse. He gave the thumbs up to the fans who cheered him along the way.
“You don’t see a procession like that in a courthouse every day, especially when a former president is handed over and then 50 minutes later the whole procession goes back to the airport. It wasn’t that special in terms of content. During the hearing 37 charges were read, Trump pleaded not guilty, bail was not discussed, but he was ordered not to speak to witnesses.
Witch hunt
Following the hearing, Trump delivered a speech on his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Trump says it’s a witch hunt. He talked a lot about Hillary, the wrong Joe Biden and all his predecessors that he accuses of taking his secret documents from the White House. He cited this as double standards and political persecution, among other things. ‘It was a cacophony of complaints, not a word about what he himself could have done wrong. He just repeated that he is innocent and that it is a coup. It also resembled an election speech,” says Hammelburg.
Cause continues
Hammelburg is having trouble saying how the lawsuit will proceed. “It will still take a long time. The next stage is the formal installation of the prosecution and defense teams and the exchange of evidence. I predict that it will be months before the case really gets going.”
