Terrifying image in the US! Thousands washed ashore
Officials in Texas’ Brazoria and Quintana counties stated that thousands of fish have washed up on the beach since Friday and thousands more are expected to wash up on shore.
While district officials warned the public not to go to the beach on their Facebook pages, they said cleanup efforts are continuing and it is unclear how long the process will take because “thousands of dead fish keep washing up on shore.”
Quintana Beach County Park officials shared images of tens of thousands of different types of fish washing up on shore, stating that the oxygen level in the water dropped rapidly due to the extreme rise in air temperatures, causing massive fish kill.
Officials noted that the fish kill could have a significant environmental impact, as herring, which makes up the majority of stranded fish species, plays a “critical role” in the region’s ecosystem.
A report published by the United Nations in 2019 concluded that warming ocean water is increasing the incidence of low oxygen levels in coastal waters, threatening fish populations. (AA)
