The attacker who stabbed the children in the park will be tried for ‘attempted murder’
Annecy prosecutor Line Bonnet-Mathis in France, at a press conference held at the Annecy Palace of Justice, stated that the suspect named Abdelmasih H. appeared before two investigating judges in the morning.
Stating that the suspect did not speak to the judges, Bonnet-Mathis stated that Abdelmasih H will be tried in pretrial detention for “attempted murder” and “rebellion with a criminal instrument”.
Bonnet-Mathis noted that 6 people injured in the attack are no longer in danger of death and 4 children of the injured are still in hospital.
The Public Ministry stated that no alcohol or drugs were found in the suspect’s blood during the tests, and that at the time of his arrest, the suspect had a weapon, 2 paintings related to the Christian religion, 1 cross necklace, 480 euros, and a Swedish driver’s license.
Stating that all eyewitnesses present at the scene gave statements on the day of the attack, Bonnet-Mathis claimed that according to first statements, the suspect was commemorating his wife, daughter and Jesus during the attack.
Bonnet-Mathis said the suspect is married with a son.
The French Prosecutor’s Office stated that the psychiatrist who examined Abdelmasih H during his statement concluded that there was no obstacle for the suspect to testify, but that it was too early to determine whether he suffered from a psychiatric pathology.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the suspect, whose asylum application was accepted in Sweden in 2013, had a residence permit in this country.
Darmanin said the suspect sought asylum in Switzerland, Italy and France in October 2022.
