Boris Johnson resigns from parliament

Boris Johnson announced that he resigned “immediately” ahead of the publication of an inquiry report into whether the Committee on Privileges had “intentionally or irresponsibly” misled the British parliament about matches.

The report has yet to be released, but Johnson is known to have received a copy of the report.

Former Prime Minister Johnson announced in his resignation letter that he was giving up the Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency, which he represented as a member of the ruling Conservative Party.

“In a letter I received from the Committee on Privileges, they made it clear that they were determined to use cases against me to remove me from parliament,” Johnson wrote in his letter. he used the phrase.

Expressing that he is very sorry to leave the constituency, Johnson noted that it is a great honor for him to serve his constituency both as mayor and as a member of parliament.

Johnson argued that the committee “has not yet provided the slightest bit of evidence that it deliberately or irresponsibly misled parliament.”

On the other hand, Boris Johnson claimed from the outset that the purpose of the committee was to find him guilty regardless of the facts.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the UK, police launched an investigation early last year following reports of 12 suspected breaches of Covid-19 restrictions in 2020 and 2021.

As part of the investigation, Johnson was fined for attending his own birthday party.

The then prime minister, Johnson, apologized on May 12 after being fined for violating Covid-19 rules, but announced he would not resign.

After the police investigation, Senior Assistant Secretary Sue Gray also released her report on the parties. In the report, it was reported that during the Covid-19 restrictions, most parties held at the Prime Ministry violated the rules, with cleaning and security staff also facing “unacceptable” treatment.

In the report, it was noted that many events held in the Prime Ministry at the time should not be allowed and it was noted that staff who raised concerns were not respected.

Johnson admitted on March 21 that he had misled parliament about his involvement in parties that violated quarantine rules in the Prime Minister’s Office during the Covid-19 epidemic, but argued that he did not do it “on purpose”.
