EU visa crisis statement: Not a unique situation for Turkey
Hipper answered your question about the reasons for the increase in the rejection rate of Schengen visa applications from Turkey at the daily press conference.
Hipper said: “I have to say frankly; In that sense, there is no special situation regarding Turkey,” he said.
On the other hand, Hipper stated that there were delays in the visa evaluation processes due to the Covid-19 outbreak, “The demand is increasing again now. This can sometimes affect visa procedures as well. However, I would like to reiterate; This is not a situation unique to Türkiye,” she said.
“ASSESSMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT INDIVIDUALLY”
On the question of whether the EU will take any initiative to resolve the issue, Hipper stated that visa screenings are always done on an individual basis and are the responsibility and jurisdiction of member states.
While 15 percent of Schengen visa applications made in 2022 through missions in Turkey were rejected, this rate rose to around 50 percent this year.
