Russia: 5 people died in the collapse of the Kahovka dam

Vladimir Leontiyev, the so-called official of the Russian-annexed New Kahovka city of Kherson, made assessments about the flood disaster that occurred as a result of rising water levels in the region after the impact of the Kahovka dam.

Stating that 7 people grazing animals in the town of Yeni Kahovka, near the Kahovka dam, were trapped in the flood, Leontiyev said: “5 out of 7 people lost their lives by drowning. Rescue efforts are underway for the remaining 2 people,” he said.

Alla Barhatnova, the so-called Minister of Labor and Social Policies in Kherson, told Russian state channel Rossiya 24 that a total of 41 people were injured due to the flooding.
After the Kahovka dam was hit on June 6, the water level in the Dnieper River began to rise rapidly.

Ukrainian and Russian officials blame each other for the dam collapse. (AA)
