Tension in the rescue of colliding ships
9 miles northwest of Chios off the Çeşme district of İzmir, the Vanuatu-flagged unloaded ship, Turkish owned and 13 with Turkish personnel, going to Ukraine from Alexandria port, and the Singapore-flagged ship POTENTIA, which includes 19 people from the port of Izmir to France collided.
As a result of the collision, it was reported that the ANT ship took water from the No. 1 hold, and photos and videos of the event were shared in the Greek press. Following the collision, the ANT rescue boats were seen to have been launched and precautions taken against the sinking of the ship.
It was claimed that there was a short-term tension between the Greek and Turkish coast guards who went to the region after the incident. Rescue efforts are said to be continuing and many coast guard boats and helicopters have been dispatched to the region. It was learned that there was a NATO warship in the region.
