French TV HUDA’s PAR analysis: ‘Women will pay the price’

Among the deputies who were sworn in at the Turkish Grand National Assembly yesterday were deputies from HUDA PAR, which was the target of backlash due to its links to the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

The entry of HUDA PAR, which is described as the “political leg” of Hezbollah, known for its terrorist acts in the 1990s, to parliament from the AKP list was also on the agenda of the French media. In the news headlined “Erdogan supported the Kurdish Islamist party, women will pay the price”, France 24 television saw the repercussions of HUDA PAR’s entry into parliament in Diyarbakır and Istanbul.

‘WOMEN IN Türkiye ARE AFRAID’

Commenting that the AKP’s support for HUDA PAR is aimed at winning the vote of Kurdish voters, French television reported that women in Turkey fear paying a price. Speaking to France 24, a female voter from Istanbul said that HUDA PAR made statements against women’s right to vote, saying: “Religion dominates politics in this country and this election can change women’s lives and rights. . HUDA PAR is very strong and I am very worried.”

France 24 explained HUDA PAR’s connection to Hezbollah in detail to its readers.

A woman from Diyarbakır said: “This may be the last option for women. We may lose our right to vote. They will change everything. We will be like Iran thanks to HUDA PAR.”

France 24 stated that many women in the politically divided country believe that Erdogan’s new term will be worse. The channel, which wrote that HUDA PAR’s rise in the political arena provoked strong reactions, led to the assessment that this situation raised concerns that the government would push Islamism even further when Erdoğan began his third term as president.

‘THANKS TO THE AKP, IT COMES FROM THE UNDERGROUND’

Mashuq Kurt, who works on Hezbollah at the University of London, noted that there are many unsolved murders linked to Hezbollah and that the organization specifically targets women and activists, noting that the AKP’s policies paved the way for the legal rise of previously clandestine organizations. Islamist organizations like HUDA PAR.

In the news, it was recalled that HUDA PAR wanted to criminalize extramarital sexual relations and annul the law that prevents violence against women, and opposes many practices related to women’s rights.
