Former Pakistani PM Khan freed until June 19

According to Pakistani national media reports, Pakistani Justice Movement Party (PTI) leader Khan arrived in the capital Islamabad from Lahore to attend his trial hearings.

The court decided that Han should be released on bail until June 19 in 7 cases in which he was tried.

There are more than 90 lawsuits filed against Han, who fell from power in April 2022.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In June 2022, the coalition government claimed that Khan and his wife had bought a large and expensive piece of land and billions of rupees from Pakistan’s top property magnate Malik Riaz to build Al Kadir University.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) stated that Khan’s PTI government made a deal with Riaz, which caused more than $239 million in losses to the national treasury.

In December 2019, Riaz agreed to hand over assets, including $239 million worth of property, to the UK’s National Crime Agency as part of an investigation into “black money”.

Pakistani Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said British authorities returned $239 million to Pakistan in connection with money laundering, but Khan handed over the money to Riaz instead of keeping it in the national treasury.

PTI leader Han, on the other hand, claimed that the accusations made by the NAB were unfounded. (AA)
