The EU is happy that Erdogan is elected! They dropped that plan.

The resurgence of Erdogan’s victory in the presidential elections provokes interesting comments within the EU. In the EU, “Erdogan won. Immigrants will stay in Türkiye. We don’t have to keep the promise to belong to the EU,” he shouts with joy.

It turned out that the EU institutions and leaders are preparing for a “remigration deal” if the opposition candidate Kılıçdaroğlu wins.

Panicked by Kılıçdaroğlu’s plan to send Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi-Iranian and African migrants within two years, the EU calculated that these migrants would not return to their countries for economic reasons and would come to the EU.

“THE PROMISE TO RETURN IT”

This preparation was shelved after Erdogan won the elections. The German newspaper Berliner Morgenpost described the atmosphere in the EU institutions as “Kılıçdaroğlu’s statement that he will send the migrants back within two years scared the EU. The EU calculated that most of them would go to the EU, not where they came from. Preparations were made for a new Migration Agreement if the opposition won. But that is no longer necessary. Kılıçdaroğlu’s willingness to join the EU was positive, but his immigration policy was negative for the EU,” he wrote.

The influential German political newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung commented on the Syrian refugees after Erdogan’s victory:

PHASE: ERDOĞAN STOPS PRESSURE ON THE EU

“The majority in Turkey believes that the EU handed over the problems to Turkey with the 2016 refugee agreement. Turkey is the country that hosts the largest number of refugees in the world. Turkey had suspended one aspect of the deal as of 2020, following backlash. It did not accept immigrants who arrived in the EU, even if they did not receive political protection. However, the Turkish Coast Guard continues to contribute to reducing the number of refugees arriving on the Greek islands. Erdogan has also stopped the pressure on the EU by opening the borders since 2020. The EU, for its part, did not fulfill its promises to renew the Customs Union and visa liberalization, which it promised for this agreement. This is criticized in Ankara. After Erdogan’s re-election, no action is expected on these issues.”

“LET’S OPEN THE DOORS TO TURKISH REFUGEES”

On the one hand, the EU is satisfied with the Syrians staying in Turkey, on the other hand, it is in favor of opening the doors to the opposition in Turkey.

According to Deutsche Welle (DW) Turkish, the co-chairman of the Left Party in Germany, Martin Schirdewan, has applied for a visa waiver for political asylum seekers who want to come to Germany from Turkey after the re-election of President Erdogan.

“With Erdogan’s re-election and the expansion of the organs of power, people will have to flee for political reasons,” Schirdewan said. Schirdewan added that Turkey “faces a deepening social, economic and political crisis.”

THE MEDIA ARE IN CONTROL, COME THE JOURNALISTS

Arguing that Erdogan won the election by ‘abolishing democracy and creating a system in his favor’, the Left Party co-chairman said: “The media seems to be completely under government control.”

Schirdewan said dissidents, university students, journalists and everyone else needed “fast, red tape-free admissions and a simplification of the visa system.”
