Cem Özdemir lashed out at Erdogan’s celebrations in Germany
After the second round of the presidential elections held yesterday in Turkey, voters in many cities across Europe took to the streets to support Erdogan.
Cem Özdemir, the Turkish-born German Minister of Food and Agriculture, also shared about the process after Erdogan’s victory. The 57-year-old Green Party minister reacted harshly to the joyous celebrations of the Turks in Germany. Making statements on Twitter, Özdemir said: “In Türkiye, who lost all hope I feel sorry for many, especially young and well-educated people. Are we prepared for the fact that extreme nationalism and fundamentalism will now spread even more strongly in this country with new Ankara imams?
Özdemir said: “Türkiye voted. What interests me is what happens in Germany, where Erdogan’s supporters celebrate without having to take responsibility for the consequences of their choices. “Vehicle convoys are not celebrations of harmless supporters of a somewhat authoritarian politician.”
THEY CRITICIZED THE CONVO
Bild, one of the most widely read newspapers in Germany, which reported on Özdemir’s posts, also claimed that there are approximately 1.5 million Turkish citizens in Germany and about half of them go to the polls. Sharing the data, Bild also announced that 67.4 percent of voters in the country went to Erdogan.
Özdemir commented that the car convoys in many German cities are “an undeniable rejection of pluralistic democracy and proof of how it failed in the face of it.”
