Turkish media are actually only allowed to publish their forecasts from 20:00, but in the first round, the Supreme Electoral Council gave permission to report earlier. Then around 17:30 the first forecasts came out.
60 million voters
More than 60 million Turks can vote on Sunday. Incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Islamic AK party can count on about 53% of the vote, according to the latest polls. In the first round, he just lost the majority with 49.5%. The 69-year-old Erdogan has now been in power for twenty years, first as prime minister and since 2014 as president.
Secularist Kemal Kilicdaroglu (74) of the centre-left Republican People’s Party (CHP) was proposed as a joint candidate by six opposition parties. He got 44.9% in the first round.
