Demonstration on the anniversary of the death of George Floyd: Nothing has changed

The death of black George Floyd by police violence 3 years ago in the US state of Minnesota was protested with a demonstration in New York.

Hundreds of protesters took part in the protest held in New York’s Union Square with the headline “Nothing has changed”. “Do you remember George Floyd?” Protesters gathered in the square with banners written to protest the death of Floyd 3 years ago as a result of police violence.

The demonstration, where the police took intense security measures, also remembered Jordon Neely, who died as a result of strangling a former US soldier in the New York subway on May 1, and the protesters chanted slogans criticizing the mayor of New York. Three other former police officers guilty of Floyd’s death have been released pending trial after posting $750,000 bail earlier. Subsequently, federal and state prosecutors separately prosecuted three former police officers, and the police officers were jailed. Two of the policemen are found guilty of assisting in the murder, while the other is awaiting sentencing.

US President Joe Biden yesterday reiterated his call for police reform aimed at limiting the use of force and ensuring the accountability of federal security officials, in the third year of Floyd’s murder as a result of the police violence. (AA)
