Biden’s harsh messages on the anniversary of the death of George Floyd
US President Biden, in a written statement released on the third anniversary of Floyd’s murder, noted that Floyd’s murder exposed the experiences of the black community.
Noting that laws must be applied fairly and impartially to all, Biden asserted that the injustice revealed by Floyd’s murder ignited one of the largest civil rights movements seen in generations.
In this context, Biden drew attention to the calls to address the challenges facing the penal system and institutions, recalling that he signed a presidential decree a year ago that contains the basic elements of the George Floyd Police Act on the restriction of the use of strength and responsibility of the federal security forces.
“But we know that real, lasting change at the state and local level requires Congress to act.” Biden called on Congress to take action to enact police reform.
Stating that he will continue to do all he can to hold the police accountable, Biden asserted that he will continue to work on real solutions with both Republicans and Democrats in Congress.
Stressing the importance of equal treatment of justice for all, Biden urged the American nation to honor the legacy of Floyd and many others by doing something for their memory, not just for their deaths.
