Imran Khan’s party could be banned in Pakistan
Pakistani Defense Minister Khavaja Mohammed Asif said they are considering banning the Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI), led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to Dawn newspaper news, Asif, in a statement in the capital Islamabad, stated that no decision has been taken yet regarding the ban on PTI, but the assessment on the matter is continuing. Asif claimed that PTI supporters attacked the foundations of the state in the protests launched after Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, adding: “This has not happened before. It cannot be tolerated,” he said.
Stating that every action of Khan pleased India, Asif said: “Attacking military institutions was Imran Khan’s last attempt. The events of May 9 defied the will of the State, ”he said.
At least 10 PTI supporters lost their lives in protests that began after Khan was arrested on May 9 in the case in which he is accused of corruption. Many public and private properties were damaged during the demonstrations and police vehicles were set on fire.
The government announced that more than 4,000 people were detained in the events. The PTI, for its part, indicated that the number of sympathizers detained exceeded 7,000. Pakistani Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said on May 13 that she had no choice but to ban Pakistan’s Justice Movement Party, referring to violent protests that began after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
