Fake Explosion Photo Rocked the US Stock Market
The fake photo, which spread around 09:30 local time on social media, including some approved Twitter accounts with a blue tick, caused fluctuations in the stock market.
While there was a decline of around 80 points in the Dow Jones for a short time, the S&P 500, which started the day up 0.02 percent, also saw a 0.15 percent decline. As of 10.11 local time, the index turned positive again.
Fake images of the explosion near the Pentagon were also used by non-US media.
It was noted that Republic TV, one of the largest channels in India, and RT, the Russian news agency, published news about the fake photo in question, but soon withdrew the relevant news and social media posts.
Police and firefighters from Arlington, where the Pentagon building is located, reported that there was no explosion or fire in the area, while experts assessed that the image in question was most likely created with artificial intelligence. (AA)
