Homesh US reaction to Israel
Miller took stock of the items on the agenda at the first press conference he offered after his appointment.
Assessing Israel’s decision to allow Jewish settlers to remain permanently in the illegal Jewish settlement called Homesh in the northern West Bank, the spokesman said:
*We are deeply concerned by the Israeli government’s decision to allow Israeli citizens to settle permanently in the Homesh region of the northern West Bank.
*This decision is inconsistent with former Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon’s 2004 written commitment to the Bush administration and the current Israeli government’s (Joe) commitments to the Biden administration regarding the Homesh compound illegally built on private Palestinian land under the israeli law.
* The advance of Israeli settlements in the West Bank is an obstacle to the realization of the two-state solution.
HE SAID “NO CHANGE”
Recalling that the administration announced that the commitments in question were no longer binding during Barack Obama’s presidency, a reporter asked why the administration put these correspondences back on the agenda, Miller said there was no change in US policy. US and Israel’s commitments to Washington.
Miller claimed that illegal Jewish settlement also prevents all other geographic settlements from being habitable.
In March, the Israeli government annulled the relevant articles of the 2005 Withdrawal Law, which provided for the evacuation of Jewish settlements in four areas of the West Bank, including Homesh.
The Israeli army decree of May 18 allowed Israelis to re-enter Homesh and paved the way for the re-establishment of Jewish settlements in this region.
REACTION TO UPDATED BEN-GVIR-I AKSA MOSQUE
Referring to the raid on Al-Aqsa by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Ben-Gvir, the spokesman said: “We are also concerned about the provocative visit to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the provocative rhetoric that accompanies her . This sanctuary should not be used for political purposes and we call on all parties to respect the sanctity of these sites.” saying.
Reiterating the US position on preserving the historical status quo in Jerusalem’s holy sites in general terms, Miller also emphasized Jordan’s special role as protector of Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem.
Israel’s far-right Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, had entered Haram-i-Sharif early yesterday morning, under his special guards and the intense protection of Israeli forces. (AA)
