Impressive statement after the Greek elections: erdoganization process
Yanis Varoufakis, leader of the left-wing MeRA25 party in Greece and a former finance minister, commented that the right-wing New Democracy party received more than 40 percent of the vote, with the words “Erdoganization in Greece is now complete.”
MeRA25 leader Varoufakis, who was below the threshold with 2.5 percent of the vote in the election and was defeated, said New Democracy leader and prime minister Kriakos Mitsotakis won a landslide victory against the opposition. . Arguing that the defeat of the main opposition SYRIZA, which lost many votes, was the result of his decision not to cooperate with the left, Varoufakis described the results as “a tsunami of conservatism.”
Noting that his party will also analyze the results, the Greek politician said they will not ally with any party.
In yesterday’s elections, New Democracy was followed by SYRIZA, the PASOK-KINAL alliance, the Communist Party of Greece and the Greek Solution, whose votes fell from 31 to 20 percent, respectively.
PURPOSE OF THE SYRIZA AGREEMENT WITH THE IMF
Varoufakis, who is also an economist, became Finance Minister in the SYRIZA government, but resigned after the SYRIZA government agreed with the IMF during the country’s crisis.
The Mera25 party entered parliament with 3.44 percent of the vote in the 2019 general election.
According to the results of yesterday’s elections, a second round will be held as New Democracy failed to win a sufficient majority in parliament to form a government on its own.
