Ankara took action: shocking statement for Assad-Erdogan meeting
While the main agenda of the elections in Turkey was Syrian refugees, a notable statement came from Damascus… Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad made a statement on Ankara’s efforts to normalize relations with Syria.
Speaking to RT Arabic, Mikdad said Assad will not meet President Erdogan. Mikdad said: “The Damascus administration will not normalize relations until Turkey ends its occupation of Syrian territory. “The meeting between the two leaders depends on the complete withdrawal of the Turkish troops,” he said.
Mikdad’s remarks came after Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said plans for a trilateral meeting between the leaders of Turkey, Russia and Syria were underway. Çavuşoğlu had also announced the day before that coordination work was being carried out with the Damascus administration for the return of Syrian refugees to their countries.
