The floods killed fourteen people and caused billions of euros in damage. Agriculture has been particularly hard hit. Fruit is grown in the region, such as peaches, kiwis and apricots, but also corn and cereals.

The rain has now stopped in the disaster area, where rescue teams and local volunteers are pumping out buildings and clearing mud from the streets before it hardens in the sun. Several EU countries, including Germany and France, will send pumping equipment to help, the European Commission announced on Sunday.
The Italian government will meet on Tuesday to discuss further measures to deal with the emergency.
