Meloni left the G7 prematurely due to floods in his country

Taking part in the G7 Leaders Summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, Meloni held a press conference after deciding to withdraw early due to the flood disaster that killed 14 people.

Stating that he was satisfied with the results of the summit, Meloni said: “We did what we had to do at the G7. I decided to go back. I cannot get away from Italy at such a difficult time. I have to work personally to give the necessary responses to the crisis. I would like to thank all the ministers who are interested in this situation and the 5,000 people who gave their hand to the work. My conscience tells me that I must return.” saying.

Prime Minister Meloni stated that she shared her decision to leave Japan early with other leaders who attended the G7 Summit, and that the leaders also showed solidarity with her decision.

Meloni affirmed that the G7 Summit discussed the mistakes of the past, how to overcome the narrative of the West against the world, artificial intelligence, Africa and irregular migration.

Meloni stated that Italy will continue to support Ukraine in all aspects of 360 degrees, which is one of the topics discussed at the summit.

When asked about Ukraine’s demand for F-16 fighter jets, Meloni said: “We don’t have F-16s, so it’s not possible for us to participate in this project. There is talk of possible training of Ukrainian pilots. This It’s a decision we haven’t made yet, it’s something we’re discussing with the allies.” saying.

Stating that his meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron, with whom relations were strained from time to time, especially on the issue of irregular migration, on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders Summit, were as good as before, Meloni said. : “We are both practical people who can go beyond the campaign stuff. We are two close countries in many aspects”. he said.

Emphasizing that the Council of the European Union (EU) must act as soon as possible regarding Tunisia, Meloni said: “We cannot be a refugee camp, the only way in this regard is to defend the external borders.” he used the phrase.

The Italian Prime Minister also noted that they are working to find a positive solution to the agreement between Tunisia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“I ANNOUNCED THAT WE TAKE NO MEASURES”

At the G7 Leaders Summit, Meloni stated that there was no pressure regarding the “Belt and Road Initiative” that Italy signed with China in 2019, and that this issue was not on the agenda, and that it is an issue to be evaluated by parliament and the corresponding parties.

Referring to the controversy of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s criticism of Italy regarding the rights of LGBTI people, Meloni said: “I think Trudeau is a victim of propaganda based on fake news. We got to the bottom of it with Trudeau, probably a somewhat hasty comment. I explained to him that we were not taking any action on it. These are things that can happen when you are a victim of propaganda that has nothing to do with reality. he performed the assessment of it.

ITALY WILL ASSUME THE PRESIDENCY OF THE G7 NEXT YEAR

Prime Minister Meloni declared that Italy will assume the G7 presidency next year, noting that they will host the next G7 Leaders Summit in June 2024 in the Puglia region.

MELONI WILL VISIT THE DISASTER AREA

After the press conference, Prime Minister Meloni left the G7 Leaders Summit to visit the disaster zone in his country. Meloni is expected to hold talks in the Emilia Romagna disaster zone tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in the region hit by the flood in which 14 people lost their lives, 36,000 people had to leave their homes.

In the statement made by the Regional Administration of Emilia Romagna, it is noted that the material damage to some roads and railways is around 620 million euros, according to estimates.

On the other hand, 4 people were injured when a helicopter that was carrying out a search and rescue operation in the region crashed in the town of Lugo.

Heavy rains, which were effective in the Emilia Romagna region in the north-central part of the country, earlier in the week, caused a flood disaster when rivers near the settlement in the region burst their banks. (AA)
